Have exhausted my research of my clan when they lived in Wales (I think) and
now need to zero in on where they were born in Co. Kerry. If anyone on these
boards had a Richard Leary or O'Leary as an ancestor please contact me at

O'LEARY / SULLIVAN FAMILY TREE
G.G.Grf: RICHARD LEARY, b. approx. 1800, Ireland. No info other than he was
listed as the father of the groom on G.Grandparent's Michael & Johanna
Sullivan Leary's 1855 wedding certificate at St. Iltyd's Church, Dowlais,
Wales. His occupation was "Farm Labourer". No info on his birthplace in
Ireland, wife or any siblings. He may have emigrated to Wales with his family
during or just after the famine but no proof to date as to his burial place
in Wales or Ireland.
G.G.Grf.: PATRICK SULLIVAN, b. approx. 1807, Co. Kerry, Ireland. Died in a
Bedwellty workhouse on August 1, 1876. His official residence at the time was
35 Augusta St. Victoria, Wales, the home of Michael & Johanna Leary. He is
buried in a non-conformist section of the Ebbw Vale Cemetery, Section F, Row
8, Grave 4.
G.G.Grm: ELLEN MORIARITY SULLIVAN, b. approx. 1811, Co. Kerry, Ireland. Died
at 35 Augusta St. Victoria, Wales on December 24, 1886 of a stroke. She is
buried with Patrick in the Ebbw Vale Cemetery, Section F, Row 8, Grave 4.
G.Grf: MICHAEL LEARY, b. September 13, 1831, Co. Kerry, Ireland. Emigrated to
Wales during or just after the famine. (1845-1849) He married Johanna
Sullivan in the Catholic Chapel of Dowlais, Wales (St. Iltyds) on November
17, 1855. Their witnesses were Timothy & Mary Sullivan, relationship unknown.
Mike worked in the iron mills of the Merthyr Tydfil Valley of Monmouthshire,
where he & Johanna raised a family of eight children whose names were Michael
P., Ellen, Mary Ann, John, Thomas, Catherine, William & Johanna. (Anna) Mike &
Johanna emigrated to America in June of 1890 with their three youngest
children, Catherine, William & Anna, and settled in Sharon, PA. They later
moved to Akron, OH for eighteen months (1894-1896) before moving to New
Castle, PA. Mike died of a heart attack on October 11, 1902 and is buried in
St. Mary's Cemetery in New Castle. ( Have not found any records of any
siblings of Michael)
G.Grm: JOHANNA SULLIVAN, b. Sept. 1837, Co. Kerry, Ireland. Emigrated to
Wales with her parents Patrick & Ellen, sister Ellen and brother Jeremiah.
Johanna emigrated to America in June of 1890 with husband Mike & three
youngest children. She died from a stroke on December 15, 1900 in New Castle,
PA and is buried with Mike in St. Mary's Cemetery.
G.Aunt: ELLEN SULLIVAN DEASY (DACEY), b. 1845, Co. Kerry, Ireland. Married
JOHN DEASY at The Church of the Immaculate Conception, Tredegar, Wales in
1863. They had four children, ELLEN, b. December 15, 1863, baptized at The
Church of the Immaculate Conception on December 26, 1863. Godparents were
John Cronan & Mary Fitzgerald, relationship unknown. JOHN, b. 1867, MARGARET,
b. 1868 and DENIS, b. 1871. All emigrated to America prior to 1880 and lived
in Sharon for a few years before moving to Pittsburgh, PA about 1895. She
died on November 23, 1922 at her home, 4611 Fillmore St. Pittsburgh. Her
obituary stated that she was a member of St. Paul's Cathedral but burial site
is unknown. Her survivors listed were children John and Margaret Dacy.
(Variation of surname) She was recorded as a widow in the 1880 Sharon, PA
Census.
G.Uncle: JEREMIAH SULLIVAN, b. 1847, Co. Kerry, Ireland. Emigrated to Wales
with family, was married and emigrated to America according to family stories
but his history ends there. No further info on Jeremiah.
Grf: MICHAEL PATRICK LEARY, b. September 24, 1856, Beaufort Square, Ebbw
Vale, Reg. Dist. of Crickhowell, Sub Dist. of Llangattock, Co. of Brecon,
Wales. Baptized at All Saint's Church, Ebbw Vale on September 28, 1856. Go
dparents were John Keating & Ellen Sullivan, relationship unknown. Mike Pat
went to work in the Victoria Iron Works at the age of 13. He married MARIA
ELIZABETH DOOLAN on April 19, 1880 at All Saint's Church, Ebbw Vale.
Witnesses were Michael Cronan & Catherine Doolan, her sister. Mike emigrated
to America in October of 1881 from Liverpool, England on the ship Rome (Roma)
and settled in Sharon, PA. (Mike Pat had reinstated the "O" in our surname
when he married Maria) He died on February 27, 1932 and is buried in St.
Mary's Cemetery, New Castle, PA.
Grm: MARY (Maria) ELIZABETH DOOLAN, b. November 1, 1858, Waterford, Ireland.
Father's name was JOHN DOOLAN and mother's name was MARY PHELAN. Maria had a
sister CATHERINE, who married a TIMOTHY HENNESSEY in Ebbw Vale shortly before
all of them emigrated to America in April of 1882 with Mike & Maria's baby
ELIZABETH. Maria died on March 14, 1941 at our home at 114 Scott St. New
Castle, PA and is buried next to Mike Pat in St. Mary's Cemetery.
G.Aunt: ELLEN LEARY, b. March 21, 1859, Trevethin, Garndiffaith, Reg. Dist.
Of Pontypool, Sub Dist. Of Pontypool, County of Monmouth, Wales. Baptized in
St. Alban's Church, Conway St. Pontypool, County of Monmouth on March 27,
1859. Godparents were John Sullivan and Catherine Leary, or Cleary,
relationship unknown. Ellen was a domestic servant at the time of her death
on April 1, 1884. She died of an enlarged liver at the family home on 35
Augusta St. Victoria, Wales and was buried in a non-conformist grave on April
5, 1884 in the Ebbw Vale Cemetery, Section F, Row 14, Grave 13.
G.Aunt: MARY ANN LEARY, b. April 24, 1861, Wains Row, Victoria, Wales. Reg.
Dist. Of Abergavenny, Sub Dist. Of Tredegar, County of Monmouth, Wales.
Baptized April 28, 1861 at All Saint's Church, Ebbw Vale. Godparents were
Michael Hayes & Ellen Fitzgerald, relationship unknown. Mary Ann's arrival in
America is unknown. She married EDWARD WILSON in Sharon, PA and moved to
Chicago, IL years later. She died there on June 2, 1946 and is buried in Holy
Sepulchre Cemetery in Worth, IL.
G.Uncle: JOHN LEARY, b. December 21, 1863, Wains Row, Victoria, Wales. Reg.
Dist. of Bedwellty, Sub Dist. of Tredegar, County of Monmouth. Baptized at
The Church of the Immaculate Conception, Tredegar, Wales on January 4, 1864.
Godparents were Michael & Ellen Curran, relationship unknown. The officiating
priest was John O'Sullivan. He emigrated to America in 1885 to Sharon, PA.
Married MARGARET COLBERT in 1897 in Chicago, IL. He died on December 18, 1918
and is buried in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Cudahy, WI. (South Milwaukee)
G.Uncle: THOMAS LEARY, b. May 26, 1866, Wains Row, Victoria, Wales. Reg.
Dist.of Bedwellty, Sub Dist. of Tredegar, County of Monmouth. Baptized at
Immaculate Conception Church on June 20, 1866. Godparents were Ellen Sullivan
Deasy & Jeremiah Sullivan, sister & brother of g.grm. Johanna. The
officiating priest was John O'Sullivan. Tom emigrated to America in 1886 to
Sharon, PA. He married MARCELLA LAMB in St. Mary's Church on February 18,
1903 in New Castle, PA He died in 1931 and is buried in St. Mary's Cemetery,
New Castle, PA.
G.Aunt: CATHERINE LEARY, b. October 15, 1868, Wains Row, Victoria, Wales.
Reg. Dist. of Bedwellty, Sub Dist. of Tredegar, County of Monmouth. Baptized
at All Saint's Church, Ebbw Vale, on November 15, 1868. Godparents were Denis
Leary (or Deasy) and Margaret O'Brien, relationship unknown. Catherine
emigrated to America in 1890 with parents & siblings. She married DANIEL
MALONEY, a mailman from Pittsburgh, PA in St.. Mary's Church in New Castle,
PA on October 10, 1899. She died on December 26, 1939 in Pittsburgh and was a
member of St. Paul's Cathedral in Pittsburgh, but burial site is unknown.
G.Uncle: WILLIAM LEARY, b. August 24, 1871, Wains Row, Victoria, Wales, Reg.
Dist. of Bedwellty, Sub Dist. of Tredegar, County of Monmouth. Baptized at
All Saint's Church, Ebbw Vale on September 24, 1871. Godparents were Thomas
McCarthy & Mary Ann Leary, relationship unknown, but assume Mary Ann may have
been his ten year old sister. William (Willie) emigrated to America in 1890
with siblings & parents Mike & Johanna and settled in Sharon, PA. He died on
October 22, 1929 in South Milwaukee, WI and is buried at Holy Sepulchre
Cemetery in Cudahy, WI. (South Milwaukee)
G.Aunt: JOHANNA (ANNA) LEARY, b. February 6, 1874, 212 Town St. Victoria.
Reg. Dist. of Bedwellty, Sub Dist. of Tredegar, County of Monmouth. Baptized
at All Saint's Church, Ebbw Vale on March 8, 1874. Godparents were Owen &
Margaret Guerin, relationship unknown. Anna emigrated to America in 1890 with
siblings and parents Mike & Johanna and settled in Sharon, PA. Anna married
THOMAS KEENAN on June 12, 1900 in St. Mary's Church in New Castle, PA. She
died on February 4, 1966 in Barberton, OH and is buried in Holy Cross
Cemetery, Akron, OH.
Aunt: ELIZABETH O'LEARY, b. April 4, 1881, at 9 Shop Row, Victoria, Wales.
Reg. Dist. of Bedwellty, Sub Dist. of Tredegar, County of Monmouth. She was
baptized at All Saint's Church, Ebbw Vale on April 17, 1881. Godparents were
Thomas Doolan & Mary Ann Etheridge, relationship unknown. Elizabeth emigrated
to America with her mother in April of 1882 and she died the following month
on May 28, 1882 in Sharon, PA, probably from an onboard sickness during her
voyage across the Atlantic Ocean. Assuming that she was buried in Sharon or
Hermitage, PA but have not been able to find her burial site.
