Hi Listers
I'm new to this particular list. My family RIDOUT originally came from the
Sherborne area in Dorset and then moved to Bath in Somerset, where we still
live. My ggg-grandfather had many children and one of these, Charles (b.
1831 Bath), was in the 1841 census living with his father and siblings. Then
he disappears completely, only to resurface in 1871, living in 10 Salubrious
Place (what a name) in Swansea with a 'visitor' Mary Ann Symons (a local
Swansea girl) - both of them are widowed. In 1874 they get married but by
the 1881 census Charles is again widowed and lodging in 10 Burnham Street.
These are the only three sightings I have ever been able to make of Charles.
I have looked at numerous trade directories (he was a French polisher) but
cannot find him. I have no record of his first marriage (so no name), either
wife's death or his own - he is not in either the English or Welsh censuses
of 1891 or 1901.
Please can you help me to find him ?? If he was to show up in the 1851 or
1861 censuses it may help to find out more about him - for example did he
ever have children. I would be very grateful for some help with this - many
thanks.
Regards, Karen
