I received this today and thought there might be some list members who could
help. Please reply to the address given and NOT to the list or me. I will
not be forwarding anything.

Dear Sir/Madam,
My apologies for contacting you out of the blue, but I have obtained your
details from the website of the Federation of Family History Societies and
was hoping to ask for your assistance and that of your members.
I am a member of the London Welsh Association, which is currently
experiencing some difficulties, such that there is a possibility that the
London Welsh Centre may have to close at some point during the next few
years for lack of funds. I and some of my fellow members think that it
would be a terrible shame if we were to lose this important centre of Welsh
culture outside Wales and would like to compile an oral history archive of
people's memories of the London Welsh Centre and also of the London Welsh
community over the course of the 20th century. We think it would be an
important and useful resource for the Welsh community in London and would
also help to remind people of the role that the Association has played in
acting as a centre of culture and providing a focus for the community for
some 70 years.
We are trying to contact as many Welsh people as possible who may have lived
in London, or used the London Welsh Centre, at any point during the 20th
century, but particularly those persons over the age of 50. We would be
very grateful if there were anyone who would be prepared to talk to us (and
a dictaphone) for half an hour or so, just so that we could record any
memories which they may have which they would be willing to contribute to
our archive. It doesn't matter if they no longer live in London; we have
members who originate from all over Wales and who can happily make
appointments to conduct interviews during visit home if convenient.
I would be extremely grateful if you were able to assist by letting your
members know about our attempts to set up this archive, and asking if
anybody would like to be involved. If so, I should be grateful if they
could contact me on this email address, or on 07967 205099 if more
convenient.
With many thanks in advance for your help,
Kind regards,
Louise Henderson
