The mother's maiden name is shown on the child's birth certificate. That
will be the obvious way forward. If there were several children you may want
to choose either one with a very distinctive name or one born very close to
a census date so you can check they were the same people in the census.
You might also like to look at the registers of St Peter's, Cockett at West
Glamorgan Archives in case any of the marriages took place there, or any
relevant Baptisms.
You could of course look for the three ladies in 1881 census looking for
place of birth.

Subject: [Swansea] Thomas family Cockett
Hi! I would like to obtain a marriage certificate for John Thomas
born
Cockett either 1854 or 1856 and Ann, born Cockett in 1863. Their first child
was born in 1889 so basing my search on that I found three possibles, Sept
qtr 1887 Mary Ann Rosser, 11a/975 , Dec qtr 1887 Sarah Ann Tasker 11a/1145
and Sept qtr 1888 Mary Ann Price, 11a/992. Can anyone advise how I can check
whether any of these match my gt gt grandparents without actually buying 3
marriage certificates? Many thanks Chris
