As a newcomer to this list I would like to post my Swansea interests.
My grandfather Albert Henry JONES b 1880 Landore was the son of Thomas JONES
b 1846 and Cornelia DAVIES b 1844, married 1866. Thomas was the son of John
JONES, a tailor and Hannah. Albert had a number of brothers and sisters:
John b 1867, Charlie 1871 - 1919, Theophilus Rees 1873 -1901, Trevor
Llewellyn 1875 -1946, Mary Hannah 1878 -1902, Cornelia Jane Blodwyn 1882
-1937, and Archibald Ivor 1884 - 1936. I have some spouses for this family
such as Charlie m Ellen OWEN, Trevor m Rose DUFFILL, Cornelia m Thomas
COUND, and Archibald Ivor m Mary ROBERTS in Cape Town.
Thomas was variously a printer, spelter smelter and insurance agent. He and
his brother John ran a printing works at Plasmarl which later moved to
Morriston. John's family were musical and included T.D JONES who was a
pianist. One son was Taliesin, an uncommon name in this family. Thomas'
father John JONES b 1815 came from Newcastle Emlyn and John's wife Hannah b
1809 from Llanfair orllywyn, Cardigan.
Cornelia DAVIES b 1844 was the daughter of John DAVIES b abt 1823 and Mary
THOMAS, probably dead by 1851. John was a stone mason and a widower by 1851
which explains why there were only three children: Mary Ann b 1bt 1842,
Cornelia 1844 and Eliza b abt 1847 all in Swansea, probably around Landore,
Llangyfelach. He subsequently married 'Betsy' BOWEN b 1822 who was aunt to a
family of sailors - Cap'n Dickey, Tom, Johnnie and Albert who lived at
Paxton Place, near the old Swansea Gaol according to my grandfather's
memoirs. John DAVIES may have been the son of David DAVIES, mason, b abt
1791 Swansea, and Cornelia, b Carmarthenshire.
Mary THOMAS was the d.o. Dina THOMAS, born abt 1798, Llanstephan,
Carmarthenshire.
I am very interested to hear from anyone who may be connected to these
families or who can shed light on some of the unknowns such as Mary THOMAS
who married John DAVIES and Hannah who married John JONES.
