So... some time later...
This has taken some time because I went on holiday (Turkey, actually), and
then, as you probably know, you have to wait quite a while before you
actually receive your copy certificate from GRO (I ordered 21 June and
received 3 July).
So, Marriage (by Certificate?) actually took place at Swansea Registry
Office 10 February 1894. Which I find surprising. I was really expecting
these two God-fearing people to wed in church.
Does anybody know if Registry Office ceremonies were very common at this
time?
and if not, Why would someone choose a Registry Office wedding over a church
service? Pregnancy?
James' father was called Henry Phillips, and he was a Sea Man (Merchant
Service). Can't seem to spot him on any censuses before this date. Where
would he be listed if he was at sea at time of 1871/1881 census?
Thanks in advance for any conributions.
Russell Phillips.

Hello Russell
No trouble with online ordering for that date. Simplest way is

Dear all,
I have identified from FREEMBD what I believe to be the marriage of my
GreatGrandparents.
District listed is Swansea. Date is March 1894. Volume 11a. Page 1160.
Names = James Phillips and Mary Hannah Phillips.
Can sks confirm that I can simply phone the Swansea Records Office and ask
for a copy of the original entry/certificate, or is it more complicated
than
that. I have read the "what to do next" on FreeBMD, but i'm not completely
sure.
Looks like I can't order online because of the marriage date. Is that
correct?
Many thanks,
Russell Phillips.
Interests: Phillips (Dyfed & Glamorgan), LONEY (Glamorgan).
