I am new to the List and hoping someone can help me or at least give me
some advice.
My great Grandfather Joseph Whitfield married a Letitia Sophia Davis in
1868 in Workington Cumberland. She gave her age as 19, address Bridge
Street, Workington and her father as Edward Davis, deceased. I have no
idea who her mother might have been and am having trouble finding her
birth cert through the 1837 site.
1871 Census she is shown as Lettice age 20 born Swansea, Wales
1881 Census she is shown as Lottie age 27 no birthplace !
1891 Census she is shown as Letitia age 37 born Swansea, Scamcganshire
(according to Ancestry)
1901 Census she is shown as Letiitia age 47 born Swansea
When she remarried in 1886 as a widow she gave her age as 32, father
Edward Davis, deceased a cabinet maker.
If I take the 1881, 1891, 1901 and her remarriage in 1886 as her being
born 1854 this would have made her 14 when she married for the first
time in 1868. Was this legal ?
Although on marriage certificates and childrens' birth certificates it
was always Davis (without an 'e') I can find more births on the 1837 for
Letitia's born with the surname Davies (with an 'e').
Can anyone advise if any of the following could have been in the Swansea
registration district in the 1850's so that I can narrow it down a bit -
Lampeter/Llannelly/Haverfordwest/Llandilofawr/CardiganCarmarthen/Brecknock/Pembroke.
I would appreciate any help I can get.
Kind regards, Pauline Thomas (nee Whitfield)
