To Mike and all other who have problems with this list, just unsub and
don't worry about it. But, stop bringing it up for discussion.
I formed the list to get some focus on my particular family who were
born and raised in Swansea. I was on the Glamorgan list and it was
quite busy with little to do with Swansea, in my estimation. We now
have close to 100 subbers so others must feel the same as I do.

Listers who also subscribe to the Glamorgan list will be aware of the
comments and questions posted there following the introduction of this
new Swansea list.
The main concern is that, unlike say Manchester or Liverpool, Swansea is
a relatively small city and, until the later 1800s, was not much more
than a large town. Consequently nearly all of us from old Swansea
families need to look to the surrounding towns and villages for part of
our ancestry.
With the exception of the big conurbations, it is generally accepted
that marshalling historical and genealogical information by County is
the simplest and easiest way because county boundaries remained vitually
unchanged for hundreds of years, unlike the boundaries of towns and
cities.
The Glamorgan list is not overwhelmingly large, is well-established, has
excellent resources and is extremely helpful. There seems to be little
to be gained and much to be lost by seperating Swansea from the rest of
Glamorgan in terms of genealogical research. New researchers may well
miss out on information by posting to one list and not the other, while
older hands will have to post to two lists to cover the same point.
Confusion may also occur over which list to post to with a query about,
for example, Oystermouth, a distinct entity from the historical Swansea
but part of the new local government district.
I am happy to support anything that will further our interests but I
cannot at this stage see any particular benefit from the establishment
of this list.
It would be helpful if the list originator would make themselves known
and give us the reasons for establishing the list and some indication of
the geographical boundaries which apply to it.
