Hi
My g grandfather was HENRY CUTCLIFFE, born in Combe Martin, Devon but living
in Swansea from the 1870's. He worked for Royal Liver Insurance. He married
a HARRIET THOMAS from Gower in 1879, and they lived in Park Street and then
Mount Pleasant, Swansea.
Their children, all born in Swansea, were ESTHER CUTCLIFFE(1881), JOSEPH
HENRY BROMHAM CUTCLIFFE(1882), LOIS CUTCLIFFE (1885?) and SYLVA(KNOWN AS
SYLVIE) CUTCLIFFE(1887/8). Connections with Alexandra Road Chapel. Also
connections with the Sandy family.
I think that two of his brothers also lived in Swansea, their names were
JOSEPH CUTCLIFFE, who married a DAMSON EDWARDS from Merthyr and possibly
JOHN MICHAEL (or Michael John) CUTCLIFFE who, I think married a JANE.
Another brother, WILLIAM CUTCLIFFE, married ELIZA ACKLAND and lived near
Cardiff. A possible cousin, EDWARD CUTCLIFFE, married an ANN and lived at
Hayburucha Farm.
I know there were other CUTCLIFFES also living in Swansea, all originating
from Devon, and I'm trying to discover in what way they were all related.
There's also a connection with the WEBB family, RICHARD CUTCLIFFE, mariner,
from Combe Martin married ELIZABETH WEBB from Oystermouth in 1790. I've hit
a brickwall trying to find out who my gg grandfather, JOSEPH CUTCLIFFE's
parents were and Richard and Elizabeth or one of their sons are possible
candidates. I'm hoping that if I can unravel who all the Swansea Cutcliffes
were and in what way they were related I might be able to work out exactly
whoJoseph's parents were.
If anyone has done any research on the CUTCLIFFE, THOMAS, or WEBB families
I'd be grateful for any information.
I noticed in a Rootsweb archive messages from a David Porter about Alexandra
Road Chapel, Swansea but the email address is out of date. If anyone has
his current email address I'd be very grateful. There was also an email
from a Patricia Stone with another out of date address.
Thanks.
