I am researching the antecedents of John Lewis PARKER; a sometime
retired sea captain, who was born in Swansea.
Unfortunately, the names of his parents were not disclosed on either
his marriage certificate or his death certificate.
John Lewis moved to Australia sometime before 1873 when he married
Mary Ann Donnolley at Newcastle. The family stayed in the Newcastle
until about 1878 when they moved north to Casino where John Lewis became
a hotel keeper.
John Lewis and his wife produced five children but due to early death
and not a lot of interest in marriage, this branch of the tree broke off
in 1937 with the death of the final child,
As I live just near Seattle in the USA, I am a little hampered by the
lack of local research facilities and I would very much welcome any
help, suggestions, advice on possible next steps. If there is a census
for Swansea for 1841 I would be grateful if some kind soul would take a
peek and let me know if there is any record of the PARKER family.
I suspect that the LEWIS in Johns name may have some significance.
Regards,
Brian Donnolley
