I understand that Wales didn't commence to keep birth records until 1837 but
is there any source available re church parish records that would have such
records stashed away in some secret vault? I'm looking at the possibility that
my g.grf. Michael Leary may have been born in Wales in 1831 instead of Co.
Kerry, Ireland. Originally we had thought that my grf. Mike Pat was born in
Swansea but later discovered that he was actually born in Llangattock, Co. of
Breckon & Glamorgan in 1856 via the Wales Census records, which also stated
that my his father Michael was born in Co. Kerry. Since I have not been able to
find my g.grf. Mike anywhere in the Kerry parish records I'm wondering if
the family stories may have been diluted over the years and he (g.grf. Mike)
may have been the one born in Swansea in 1831. I've caught him telling little
white lies on various records about his age so can't ignore the fact that he
was also stretching the truth about being born in Co. Kerry. Any suggestions
out there?
Thanks.
