In 1851 this seems a likely candidate for your David
2466 1851 CENSUS OF SWANSEA. REF.H.O.107/2466, E.D.18.
Piece: 2466 Folio: 626 Schedule: 011
Address: BROOK COTTAGE
DAVIES ANN HD W 45 LAUNDRESS GLA LLANMADOC (c1806)
REED ANN DA M 25 LAUNDRESS GLA SKETTY (c1826)
DAVIES DAVID SO U 23 BLACKSMITH JOURNEYMAN GLA SKETTY (c1828)
DAVIES JOHN SO U 17 AG.LAB. GLA SKETTY (c1834)
DAVIES THOMAS SO - 13 AG.LAB. GLA SKETTY (c1838)
The address was just after the mansion of Parkwern, which is at the top of
Brynmill Lane near its junction with Gower Road, and after a number of years
as a nurses' residence is now converted to upmarket flats called Rembrandt
Court. Parc-wern is the name used for the mansion in the 1884 map of Sketty
on the old-maps web site.
From memory, I think Brook Cottage may have been the cottage on the opposite
side of Brynmill lane, and may be described in 'The Houses of Singleton', a
history of all the old buildings surrounding what is now Singleton Park.
This is the description of the enumeration district.
"All that part of the Town and Franchise of Swansea which lies within the
following boundaries, viz.
commencing at Tirissa Stream on the Tircoch Road, down that stream to the
Cross Inn and Bryn Mill, thence
along High Water Mark to St.Helens Road, along that road to the Gower
Turnpike Road, to and along such road
to the road leading to White's Gardens and Tynonne, and along such road to
Tynonne, thence along the Terrace
Road to the said Tirissa Stream at Tircoch aforesaid, and including
Brynmor, Parcwern, Uplands, Pantygwydir,
Glanmor, Rhydings, St.Helens, White's Gardens, and all other houses,
buildings and gardens within the above
boundaries except Brunswick Place, which is included in E.D.4." "This
lookup was made using material published by Glamorgan Family History
Society, details of membership and their research service with a full list
of published indexes and transcriptions for sale can be seen on
http://www.glamfhs.org/ "
'Tynonne' is Ffynnone. Following the description on the 1884 map, where the
Tirissa stream, an important boundary at the time, is marked with +++, the
enumerator started near St. Helens and went round the area anti-clockwise.
After Parkwern and Brook Cottage come another 8 cottages before Glanmor,
Cwmgwyn farm and Penylan.
He would have moved about 2 or 3 miles to Cockett. In 1861 that was part of
Swansea Higher, which was an electoral district for local government
purposes, as was the 'Town and Franchise of Swansea' in 1851.

Dianne,
I think I have found them on the 1861 Glamorgan FHS CD-ROM with another
son:
4100 56 58 ,COCKETT, DAVIES, DAVID SO - 2 M - GLA SWANSEA
4100 56 58 ,COCKETT, DAVIES, DAVID HD M 32, BLACKSMITH GLA SWANSEA
4100 56 58 ,COCKETT, DAVIES, SARAH WI M 27 - GLA SWANSEA
4100 56 58, COCKETT, DAVIES, THOMAS SO U 4 ,SCHOLAR GLA SWANSEA
4100 56 58, COCKETT, DAVIES, WILLIAM SO U 6 ,SCHOLAR GLA SWANSEA
... however I cannot find a David DAVIES married to a Sarah on the 1851
census.
Regards,
Greg Davies
