Hi All
This particular search has become something of a matter of principle now and
I'm hoping that somebody can help but I know it might be something of a long
shot.
My g-g-g-grandmother Catherine Beard (nee Jones) died on 26 February 1901 at
9 Cwm Terrace, St John's, Swansea. I assume that this is the current Cwm
Road in that area.
We're trying to find out where she got buried - I've contacted Swansea and
West Glam archives and they've confirmed that there were no local newspaper
announcements after her death, she'd not in Cwmgelli, Danygraig or
Oystermouth either and Morriston didn't open for another 14 years.
Swansea Council said that my enquiry "was forwarded to the Archive Service
for church/chapel burial records and again no burial record was found."
The nearest places of worship appear to be St John's or the old Siloam
Chapel (near the Llangyfelach Road/Pentre Mawr Road junction) but to my
knowledge neither had burial grounds. Would we be able to access the
records for burials in St Matthew's Church High Street or the old Cruglas
Chapel that was in that High Street/Prince of Wales Road area - they seem
the next nearest possibilities?
If anybody can think of any churchyards that she might have ended up in or
is able to do any lookups to help then we'd be really grateful.
Thanks
Andrew
