There is a Family and Local History day at the Waterfront Museum, Swansea
from 10am to 4pm on Saturday 24th March organised by Swansea branch of
Glamorgan Family History Society. As well as lookups from the society's
databases and a little help with internet research (upstairs- that's where
I'll be most of the day) there will be the society bookstall, representation
from a number of local history groups, Bryan Richards' Maritime History,
Swansea Library, West Glamorgan Archives, Glamorgan & Gwent Archaeological
Trust, local experts on copper industry and canals, and the Museum's own
curators. Also a limited number of commercial stalls including I think local
historic photos.
(If you are using a satnav aim for the LC Leisure Centre at SA1 3ST.
Walkable distance from Swansea Quadrant Bus Station for most people.
Family-friendly Family History themed activities for children run by the
museum staff. Near enough to shops and a pleasant stroll around Swansea
Marina (former South Dock) to send off the family to entertain themselves
while the FH enthusiast gets 'stuck in'. Shopmobility scooter users will
find the Shopmobility base adjacent to the revamped bus station and the
museum is scooter-friendly as long as you don't try to get in using the
revolving door. )
