Bryan.
I note your messages on the Different lists to do with 19th;century Mariners and their
Ships.
But do you have anything for much earlier please?
I have an ancestor of mine,Robert GETHIN who was mentioned in the 1670 "Hearth
Tax"as being a "Captain".
He was my 9 x great,grandfather.
He was then of Nicholaston in the Gower.
He may have been involved with Shipping between the Gower and Tenby in Pembrokeshire
perhaps.
Cheers Graham.

Hi Graham
Unfortunately not. I have on my impressed seamans list 1650 to 1700 South
Wales and West of England
These came from papers at NLW made by one of the Mansel family of Margam
Park who was an Admiral.
Surname Forename age parish date county remarks
GETHIN John 18 Swansea Un-Dated - Glamorganshire Un-Married~Middle stature
GAMON Robert 19 Nicholston Gower Un-Dated - Glamorganshire Un-Married~Middle
stature
However for Merchant Navy records, my earliest is 1835 at the moment. Most
mariner records prior to 1861 are at the
National Archives in Kew. I am doing 1835-1845 because I was up there doing
other research and had a day to
spare which I used to photograph crew lists.
My main thrust is to finish Swansea's records, have 1883 to 1894 and 1896 to
1913 left to index.
Regards
Bryan
