Here now are the STOTE,s of PORT EYNON..
taken from PORT EYNON registers of 1672 onwards...
Elizabeth STOTE daughter of David and Elizabeth STOTE,was baptised 30 november 1845.The father was a Mariner of PARSONAGE,Port Eynon.siblings...
Abraham 6 march 1842.Jane 13 jan;1833.
Sarah 8 march 1835.Richard 8 oct;1837.
and John 29 september 1839.
DAVID STOTE married to[wait fo it..]Elizabeth HULLIN.[that name again]
David STOTE buried 31 july 1856 aged 67.
OF PARSONAGE.
Elizabeth HULLIN th daughter of John and Mary HULLIN of Port Eynon, was baptised 19
august 1801.siblings...
WILLIAM 20 feb;1805.HENRY 20 April 1803,and JOHN 15 septmbr 1797.
NOW HERE COMES THE CRUNCH.....
There was no marriage of a John HULLIN to a Mary at PORT EYNON,but at LLANGENNITH,there was this one...
JOHN HULLIN MARRIED TO MARY JENKIN 28 june 1786.
Now that would tie in nicely with the john Hullin who was baptised at Llangennith 14
august 1765,[the previously mentioned one,]the son of William and Ann,and brother to your ancestor William.
The moral of this story being, what someone told me many years ago, that all the GOWER folk, seem to be related to each
other,in one way or another.
More to follow later.....
Cheers,Graham.

A kind volunteer looked up the 1861, 1851 and 1841 census, 2 days ago, and tracked my families back one more generation. Thanks, Jen! My husband's great grandmother, Margaret May McNab (nee HULLIN), was b. Nov. 1876 in Burton Upon Trent to William HULLIN and Elizabeth STOTE. They had moved to that area from Swansea, Glamorgan between 1872 - 1874.
Here are the basics on those 2 families:
1881 census Uxbridge St., Burton Upon Trent, Staffordshire
William HULLIN b. 1839 in Gower, Glamorgan, cooper
Elizabeth (nee STOTE) b. 1846 Gower, Glamorgan, (m. about 1865)
their children:
Eliza b. 1867, Swansea
William b. 1869 Swansea
Mary J., b. 1870, Swansea
Louisa b. 1872, Swansea
George b. 1874, Burton, Staffordshire
Margaret . 1877, Burton
Nellie b. 1879, Burton
>From the 1851 census we have pieced the following families together.
William, seems to be the son of William and Ann HULLIN:
1851 census Llangennith, Coety Green
William HULLIN, b. 1813 Llangennith
Ann, b. 1809 Llanddewi
Children:
Jane, b. 1837 Llangennith
William b. 1840, Llangennith
George b. 1847, Llangennith
Elizabeth STOTE seems to be the daughter of David and Elizabeth STOTE:
1851 census Porteynon, Glamorgan
David, b. 1789 Porteynon
Elizabeth, b. 1801, Porteynon
their children:
Sarah,b. 1835 Porteynon
Richard, b. 1837, Porteynon
John, b. 1839, Porteynon
Abraham, b. 1842, Porteynon
Elizabeth b 1846 Porteynon
Early days in the search for these families in Wales.
Hi Graham: Do any of these names fit into your families in Mumbles? I imagine that all the HULLIN families are related since there are so few.
My Husband's gr grandmother Margaret May HULLIN emigrated to Canada in 1891, according to the 1901 census and I have not been able to find her siblings or parents in Canada yet. I have been looking a long time.
There is a John HULLIN buried here near Margaret May - 1873- 1944. Not sure who he is yet.
I look forward to hearing from anyone with knowledge of these families.

Hi Dorothy.I would be interested to know what STOTE,s and HULLIN,s you have got,as
both of these names married into some of my Oystermouth branches.
Oystermouth is situated a few miles down the coast from Swansea,on the Gower Pennisular.
As far as I can remember, without looking at my folders, both HULLIN and STOTE names are in the Gower area.
cheers,Graham.

Hello:
I am researching the HULLIN and STOTE families of Swansea. Is there a place in the Swansea area named New Forest? This is from the 1845 time period.
I'll be back with more about my families later.
Thank you.

Unless you mean Fforestfach ( literally little forest) I can't think of
anywhere of the sort. In late 1840s the 'New Cut' was the new diverted bed
of the river Tawe.

Subject: [Swansea] Ancestry.com and Swansea 1891 Census
Content-Type: text/plain;
charset="iso-8859-1"
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit
When the PRO handed the 1891 Census to Ancestry.com, I assumed that the
same, or similar, charging policy would be adopted - i.e., a one-off payment
per search. When I tried an Ancestry.com search for my grandfather, John
Johnson (born 1864), they came up with three possibilities - but demanded
that I take out a year's subscription for this one look-up! $100 is a very
expensive sledge-hammer to buy for this small nut!
I wouldn't mind, if I thought that Ancestry.com could help with searches for
other ancestors of mine, but I've done most of the spade work on them, and
I'm sure I wouldn't be able to find out much more for my $100.
I really don't think that the PRO should have handed over all the other
census data under these charging conditions, if I've understood them
correctly. Is there any (cheaper!) way of getting around this problem?

Hi Barry
Dont worry, Glamorgan FHS are indexing the 1891 census at this moment and
they hope to have it ready by September. Swansea has been mostly transcribed and
is being checked
The actual images for the whole of the county for 1891 cost about 45GBP from

Keep your eyes open for a 14-day free trial. Ancestry does them fairly
often, and are good about not charging your credit card if you tell them not
to, before the end of the trial. The important thing is to take exact note
of how you have to cancel if you want to.
Glamorgan FHS has 1891 census not too far from finished I understand.

Today I got a message from Support(a)pacbell.net telling me that my
account has been attacked by a virus and I should open the zip file
attached to see the specific info about my account. While I have Norton
running at all times and completely updated, I was not warned of a
virus, plus my mail goes through Yahoo mail and gets scanned there
before even getting to my computer. Since there was an attachment, I
didn't open it but replied to support and got back an automated notice
from them that they would answer my mail ASAP (still haven't replied,
however). So, I deleted the original email and it went into my trash.
Later I decided to check Norton and found, yes it was a new worm called
Beagle, see description here:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.beagle.k@mm.html
We have had at least three new virus/worms this week and I told you the
above story because I actually thought about opening the attachment but
because I know these virus originators can be tricky, I didn't and right
now I am really happy I didn't act out my impulse. I have since emptied
my trash to get rid of it. Evidently, it got in before Norton found
about about it and could send the definition to my program which, in
turn, gives me a warning when I get an email with a virus attachment.
They have since updated my virus protection.
Please be careful with your mail.
