It was reported on July 1908, that William DEVONALD of 13, Gloucester Place
had been killed, while trying to board a moving Mumbles Train, at Swansea
Gaol. He had only recently started work at the Swansea Post Office as a
trainee telegrapher, and 'had not yet received his uniform'.
Best wishes,

I live in upper New York state, and I am trying to trace my father's family
for his 90th birthday. I have birth certificates for David Howell and
Aubrey. I am trying to get the marriage certif. for David Thomas and Mary
Richards and David Howell and Charlotte Howell. Aubrey had a sister Eleanor
who was 7 in the 1881 census. I think Aubrey also was married in Wales prior
to going to Manitoba Canada and had a son Hugh (Huw). Hope we can jfind a
relative for a birthday gift for my Dad, Donald Arthur Thomas.

Hi again Tom,
I must be blind this morning. I just re-read your reply, and there was an
older brother, Evan, listed, so everyone was present. This is so great!
Thanks so much, again, for your help!
Emily
Dear Tom,
Yes, this certainly helps. In fact it brought a tear to my eye seeing my
grandfather's name as it was recorded when he was an infant. I went to the
cemetary, and his birth year was 1880 (December), so this would be correct,
if that was recorded in 1881. His two older sisters were Mary and Martha as
well. He had an older brother, so I don't know where he was, unless he had
already come to the US. I was so thrilled to see a Devonald listed.
Certainly your Devonalds have to be related! I know that Davies is a common
surname, but I don't think Devonald is. Thank you so much for your
information!

My details are sketchy at best, but my great-grandfathers' name was Evan
Davies. I believe it was on that side of the family a Mary Lloyd married a
man with the surname Devonald (thanks for the corrected spelling of the
name). From the story that was handed down, it seems Mary's family felt she
was marrying beneath her social status, and disowned her when she went ahead
and married without the family's blessing. From then on, future generations
always included the name Devonald when naming their children. My
grandfather's name was Ernest James Devonald Davies, and his brothers and
sisters all had Devonald somewhere in their name. My grandfather came to the
United States when he was probably about 7 or 8 years of age. I have to
double check his birth year, but it was somewhere between 1879 or 1880? I'll
look it up to get the exact date. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Are there any clock experts out there.
We have a late 18th century Welsh longcase clock in the family, sadly
following my father's death early this year we are now parting company with
the clock. But before we do we have one query, on the clock's dial is written
THOMAS DAVIES and then underneath CARMARTHEN. Is this the name of the
clockmaker or, if the clock was given as say a wedding gift, the name of the
bride and groom? We have Davies in our family tree but not as far as we can
tell Thomas. If it is the clockmaker is there any recorded information about
them.
If anyone is interested or would like to see the clock then they should go to
Welsh Country Auctions, Crosshands, Llanelli on Saturday 10th November
where it is possibly being sold in auction at 10.00 a.m.
regards,
Stuart
THank you so much for your lookup on Charles B. Jenkins. Yes, he was my
ggrandfather and Emeline was my grandmother. I didn't respond immediately
because I was afraid I might have picked up a virus but I have now checked
and am told that my pc is clean. One question. Did you send an attachment
with your message? It came through showing that there was an attachment but
I didn't download it. I am really a novice when it comes to computers and am
afraid to download attachments unless I have been warned ahead of time that
one is coming. There is no attachment to this e-mail responnse. Now I just
have to find out more about Charles and Frances and who their parents were in
Pembrokeshire. Each step leads to two more, doesn't it?

Am seeking information about the location of Cefn Coldy Cymer in South
Wales. My husband's grandfather, John Protheroe, was born there on
Aug.28. 1852, and emigrated to the US at age 25 (approx), settling in
Kansas. We cannot find Cefn Coldy Cymer on the map. Can someone help us
out - either regarding the town or the family? Thanks.- Barbara

My grandfather's family also came from Swansea. All of his brothers and
sisters had Devinald for a middle name as this was his mother's maiden name.
Does this ring a bell with anyone?
Hi Listers,
Can SKS please let me know if the cemetry at Cadoxton has been listed as I
would like to find out if there are any headstones for the Saunders Family.
I will give details of names and dates when and if ..to much info to bore
others!
Many thanks,
Steve
Hiya,
Bigamy.
Everytime I hear that word (not often, I have to say!) it always reminds me of truly dreadful word-play jokes, including that one from 'Carry on Cleo' where Kenneth Williams (as Ceasar) says "Infamy! Infamy! They've all got it in for me!"
Sorry, just had to say that.
Well, last night I visited an elderly aunt (would have been yesterday afternoon but the exhaust fell off my car......) I showed her the printouts of the family tree that I've compiled (26 pages of A4 cut and pasted together!!!).
She put me right about a number of dates and people, etc, then I asked about her grandfather. As I'd already learned, he was a bit of a rogue. On a Friday, he'd get his dole cheque and disappear until he'd drunk it all. Also, he'd go all round the valleys (and beyond?) selling an ointment he'd made. Actually, he'd get his daughters (my grandmother and her 3 sisters) to make, made of lard and various other ingredients - my aunt said it was very good! Again, he'd go off selling the stuff, and would drink all the profits.....
My aunt told me that, on the day he died (1945) her mother gave her a piece of paper to take to the post office, on it was a list of people and a message for the post master to send as telegrams informing relatives of the death. This reminded her of a number of relatives, but she didn't know how they were related.
Anyway, she overheard a couple of women talking of her grandfather, one not knowing who he was, so the other said "yes, you know him, he went to jail for bigamy"
My aunt didn't know what this meant, but knew it wasn't a good thing, so didn't mention it to her mother or grandmother.
It could be true, it could have been misheard, who knows! He could have been married before he married my great grandmother (1905, Swansea) of after. I know their first two daughters were born in Swansea (Llando) and then they moved to Cwmbach, Aberdare.
Anyway, I don't know when or where this happened, but probably in Swansea, although it could have been anywhere in Glamorgan.
If anyone has any idea as to how I could go about finding out I would absolutely love to hear from you!!!
Diana
Hi Dianne,
Not sure if this is him in the 1881 Census as this was the only
William. J.
