Hi Pat
I'm surprised you were not bombarded with 1881 census requests. Here's mine.
Eleanor PARCELL, head of household, unmarried, lived 3 Pleasant Street in
Swansea with her mother Ann, widow. According to family lore, Eleanor was
married late in life to a Mr. MOGREDGE.
Would you please check the 1881 census for households with surname Mogredge
or Mogridge.

Well, so far I have had no takers on my offer to do lookups! I have had
a chance to check out all the cds and find it fairly easy to navigate.
The info it gives is name, age, place of birth, rest of people living in
the same household and all their info, address where they are living and
microfilm number where you can find them. I was disappointed they did
include occupations. Well, I am ready to start the lookups any time you
start asking. However, only for Swansea subbers.

I just received the above cds from the LDS in Salt Lake City. I will do
lookups for anyone subscribed to this list. Please address your
requests to the list and I will answer to the list. I probably won't be
able to get to them until this weekend because I haven't even looked at
them yet.

This is my first post to this list. I'm on the look out for NECK cousins and
I'm currently posting messages on all the UK mailing lists relating to
places where I know they lived. In the case of Swansea the individuals in
question are as follows ....
My 3x great-grandfather's brother James NECK moved to Swansea after
previously living in Bridgwater and Newport. He died at 6 Clifton Hill.
James had a son, William James, born in Newport in 1854. William married
Julia TOWNSEND in Swansea in 1875 and in the 1881 census he was living at 30
New Oxford Street. He was a printer & machinist. William and Julia had sons
called William, Ernest and Frederick (there may have been more children born
after 1881).
If any of these names look familiar, please get in touch!!

website: www.boddyparts.co.uk
~ my website includes info about my CURTIS, MATTHEWS, HEAD, SMITH, BODDY and
NECK ancestors, as well as a page of photos from around the West Country of
England.
Is there any information available on monumental inscriptions for Cadoxton
Church, Neath?
Are any lists available complete or incomplete, I know the parish registers
are available from the Glamorgan FHS but I really need the M.I.'s to complete
family links.

Subject: David Thomas and the Isaac family
Hello I am new to this list.
I am searching for the parish records of St John's Swansea.
My David Thomas married Sarah James in Carmel Chapel Aberdare on 18th May 1852, Both were aged 30 years.
On all the census reports David Thomas lists St John Swansea as his place of birth which would be a round 1822.
David's sister Elizabeth married Lancelott Isaac on 18th May 1839 at St John's parish church Swansea. Same day and month as her brother's marriage. They father's name was Howell Thomas and he was a Collier Agent.
The Isaac family was also from St John's Swansea.
Can any one help me find the baptism's of David and Elizabeth or the marriage of Howell Thomas?
Thanks
Heather in Yorkshire

Dear List,
I am researching my Harrop (Bristol and Swansea) and Bolitho (Truro)
ancestors. Henry Harrop married Lucy Bolitho in Swansea in 1884 (St.
Mary's). Some of his children were born in Swansea and his father, William
Harrop, lived in Swansea in later life. William worked for Pritchard's
Chemical Works in Crymlyn Burrows in approx. 1870. All the family followed
him to Swansea in 1871.
Henry worked in the iron and steel industry. He and his family
"commuted" between Swansea (?) and America as the tides of fortune in the
industry changed. He died in America in the 1920's.
Any information or insights will be greatly appreciated by this novice.
Thank you George for pointing out that you already have had some success
by subbing to the Swansea list. While the list is smaller than some of
the other Wales lists, and quieter, it is more focused for those of us
looking for Swansea ancestors. There was some criticism about starting
this list but you are proving that there is a need for a Swansea list.
Thanks again for letting us all know.

George,
I know of a Pleasant Street in Morriston. If it is the same one as
exists today you are likely to find it in the census for Llangyfelach.
Best regards,
Peter

Thank you Elinor Wood
Your census data greatly aids my research especially showing birthplace of
my George PARCELL was not Swansea as I had assumed from that dubious source
known as "family tradition."
In just the short time I have subscribed to this mailing list I have found
birthplaces of George Parcell (London, not Swansea), his wife Ann Walker
(Ipsdin, Oxford from 1881 census) and three children born prior to my ggf
Henry in 1838. The son George b abt 1832 GLS (Gloucestershire?), dau Mary
Ann bapt 6 Jun 1834 (in Swansea?) and a son John bapt 15 May 1836 (in
Swansea?) who I assume died young since he does not appear in the 1841
census.
Thank you again and also to you, Pat for setting up this mailing list.

Fran,
your family are not in Swansea in 1851, but there is a James Ross, in 2
Camden Place, an unmarried visitor aged 27, Clerk, born in Scotland.
(Staying with an Eliza Ower, 48, widow, and her 24 year old daughter Eliza,
Thomas Nickleson, unmarried clerk, 34, and John Mingies, unmarried clerk,
21, all of them from Scotland.) Perhaps this was an elder brother of your
George who came to the area first?
Unfortunately, I don't have access to the 1861 census
