My great grandfather, William Lewis, was born at St. Harmon circa 1830 according to census
info. I believe, but can't prove, that his father was John Lewis, and have the 1841
info
(HO107- 17-7-7) Pantulee
John Lewis, 50, ag. lab., Y
Jane Lewis, 50, Y
Margaret Lewis, 15, Y
Elizabeth Lewis, 11, Y
William Lewis, 10. Y
Sarah Lewis, 7, Y
Hannah Lewis, 5, Y
In 1851 the place name is given as Pentwlche, St. Harmon (HO107-2494-36-19)
John Lewis, 70, ag lab, widower; born St. Harmon
Jane Lewis, daughter, 26, unmarried; born St. Harmon
Margaret Lewis, daughter, 24; born St. Harmon
Hannah Lewis, daughter, 13; born St. Harmon
Ann Lewis, grand daughter, 9; born St. Harmon
Mary Lewis, granddaughter; born St. Harmon
Elyna Lewis, granddaughter, 5; born St. Harmon
John Lewis, grandson, 4; born St. Harmon
I had thought that this might be Pwllau but now have doubts.
Could someone with local knowledge sugggest an alternative? This is my brick wall and I
would love to be able to break it down. With a name like Lewis this one has been very
difficult - made more difficult by the fact that the age varies considerably in every
census but 1830 ish seems most likely. The only other information that I have of him
before 1861 is that he married Margaret (29 in 1861) who was born at Llangurrig,
Montgomeryshire.
Thanks for reading.
Pam
