Hello, I am new to this list and seeking assistance with the following bit
of family research. Particularly I am interested in the ancestry of James
PHILLIPS and Tryphosa LLOYD, but any information will be gratefully
appreciated.
My great x 2 grandparents, James PHILLIPS and Tryphosa Elizabeth LLOYD were
married on 6 July 1886 at St John (??) in Swansea. James and Tryphosa's
marriage certificate state that they were both 24 years old, that James was
a Steelman by occupation, and that his father was John PHILLIPS, deceased.
Tryphosa's father was Thomas LLOYD, an invalid.
First son and my great grandfather, Alexander Thomas PHILLIPS, was born at
Landore in the Swansea district on 15 April 1887. Their other children are
William, Edith, Olive and Mabel (not necessarily in that order!) all born
in the Swansea area. Alexander and William emigrated to Australia as young
adults (about 1911), but I do not know what the girls did.
The family turn up in Swansea in the 1901 census where it is stated that
James PHILLIPS was a 39 years old Carter for the GWR and born in
Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire. The best birth index match I have found in
FreeBMD is Dec 1862, but I'm not prepared to spend money on the certificate
just yet! Elizabeth, as she is called in the census, is 38 years old and
born in Radnorshire. I suspect her birthday is around April - June 1863
(she would have turned 39 shortly after the census was taken).
