Hi Keith,
We have Jowett's Railway Atlas, a wonderful book. It covers the whole of
the British Isles and every map is drawn by hand. All the writing is
printed by hand by Jowett. It has all the lines of the past from
pre-Grouping to the present day, it was first published in 1989.
I have found the Leominster Kington lines and it was in fact the Great
Western.
The stations are as follow
Leominster
Kington Junction where the Great Western crosses the London and North
Western and Gt. Western line from Hereford to Craven Arms.
Kingsland
Pembridge
[a branch line then goes north to Presteign]
Titley Junction
[a branch line goes south through Lyonshall to Eardisley]
Still on the main line:
Kington
Stanner
Dolyhir
New Radnor where the line ends.
There was the Cambrian Railway that ran from Moat Lane Junction through
Llanidloes Rhayader, Newbridge on Wye to Built.
A London and North Western line was from Craven Arms in Shropshire through
Llangunllo, Llanbister Road, Llandrindod Wells to Builth.
I can't speak too highly of this atlas for anyone interested in railways or
is just nostalgic about the pre Beeching days. I remember as a child
travelling on the train from Llanidloes to Newtown and a few time to
Aberystwyth. I also went down as far as Llandrindod Wells by train but of
course I was far too young to appreciate the beauty and remoteness of the
countryside we were travelling through. Jowett even includes sidings,
engine sheds, tunnels and summits and if anything is ever a "labour of love"
this book certainly is.
I think I have included the Radnorshire lines although there was also the
Elan Valley Railway constructed when the dams were built. There is a book
On the Elan Valley Railway published by Oakwood Press.
I am sure someone with a more local knowledge of Radnorshire than me will be
able to help you more.
Regards,
Margaret Harvey

Subject: The Leominster-Kington- ? railway
Im researching the Leominster - Kington branch line railway in
Herefordshire, the line left Kington & entered Radnorshire, can anyone tell
me what stations were on the line in Radnorshire? I would also like to find
out about other lines in the county as my ggrandfather worked on the railway
in both counties is there anyone doing similar research? if so please get in
contact.
Keith.
