Hi,
My Welsh speaking aunt from Llanidloes gave me the pronunciation of
Llanbadarn Fynydd and it is exactly as you write it so I am now very proud
of my efforts. I was born in Wales although left for England a long time
ago when I was six yet even so I have great difficulty with pronunciation.
I have found Ty-llwyd (written that way) on my old 1800s reprint of the
first edition of the Ordnance Survey map for Radnor and its to the west of
the River Ithon. On this map Llanbadarn Fynydd is written as Llanbadarn
fynydd.
There are maps for the whole of Wales, England and Scotland in this series
and they are completely different from modern day ones, They are printed in
grey/black on cream and are useful for finding farms that have long
disappeared as in the case of the Elan Valley being flooded and farms lost
under water.
Regards,
Margaret Harvey
