Greetings,
Your help is greatly appreciated.
I am searching for the family and ancestors of James Moore, born before 1650 in England.
Some information on James' children follows:
John Moore was born about 1667 in Radnorshire. Mary was born about 1676, perhaps in
Radnorshire.
John married Jane Cuerton, born about 1673. John died October 1719 in Blockley Township,
Philadelphia County, PA. Jane died 1748 in Blockley Township. They were married about
1690 in Philadelphia County, PA.
I believe Jane Cuerton was born in Radnorshire. The minutes from a Radnor Monthly Meeting
state that Jane Cuerton arrived at Philadelphia on October 8, 1685, having taken the ship
Rebecca from Liverpool, England.
As stated above, the father of John and Mary was James Moore, born in England before 1650.
I don't have James' wife's name, but believe that she may have been from
Radnorshire, as well. My thinking is that James Moore may have come to Radnorshire either
before, or after marrying his wife, and had his children, John and Mary, there before
leaving for America to settle in Philadelphia County, PA.
James Moore was a blacksmith, and a follower of William Penn. James Moore's name
shows up in Quaker meetings in the 1690's in Philadelphia County, PA.
Much of the information I have so far came from Marjorie Dickey Parsons' book: Lines
and Lifestyles: Moore, Dickey, Parsons, and Some Related Families.
I understand that while "Moore" is not a Welsh surname, many Moore's
transplanted to Wales during the Elizabethan Period under the auspices of Dudley, Earl of
Essex, occupying lands in Powys, including Radnorshire (this fact provided by Julie
Preston).
Any help on James Moore would be greatly appreciated.
