Subject: [WLS-RAD] Re: List Announcement
Hello Listers,
As you will have seen from Malcolm Bebb's announcement, we (Julie
Preston
and John Ball) have today inherited the task of administering this list.
We
have also adopted from Malcolm the other three mailing lists covering
interests in mid-Wales.
Malcolm set a fine example in his role as list administrator, a role he
has
undertaken since the Powys List was first established in March 1998. We
hope
to emulate his friendly and relaxed but firm (when necessary) approach
to
the task.
Undoubtedly it will take us a while to settle into the routine of daily
housekeeping duties in running the list, but we hope this change of
personnel will be as seamless as possible, and that the helpful,
friendly
and courteous spirit of the List will continue with renewed vigour.
Some of you will already be familiar with us, but for those who are not,
here is a very brief biographical note about each of us:
Julie Preston lives in Michigan, USA. She has been researching her Welsh
ancestry in Montgomeryshire and Cardiganshire for many years, and has
made
numerous trips to Wales to conduct on-the-spot research, exploring
ancestral
homes, trekking round Welsh graveyards, and visiting the National
Library of
Wales. She is a great believer in adopting a hands-on approach to family
history research. She is a member of several Welsh family history
societies
and has published articles in society journals. She has been subscribed
to,
and has been a regular contributor to, the relevant west Wales and mid
Wales
mailing lists since their inception. Julie is also coordinator of the
Mid-Wales Lookup Exchange webpages.
John Ball lives in the Swansea Valley of South Wales having moved to the
area over thirty years ago. He has been researching his own English and
Manx
ancestry since 1980. Although he has no known Welsh roots, he has taken
an
active interest in the study of Wales and the special challenges of
Welsh
family history for over a decade, and since retirement has developed an
extensive website with a focus on Wales, its topography, and its local
and
family history. Like Julie, John has been subscribed to, and has been a
regular contributor to, all the mid Wales mailing lists since their
inception. He is a member of the family history societies relevant to
his
own ancestry and has had articles published in society journals. Some of
his
'Images of Wales' photographs have been published in British family
history
magazines. John is also responsible for maintaining the Breconshire
section
of the GENUKI website.
Our grateful thanks to Malcolm for his efforts in nurturing and
maintaining
the lists over the past seven years. We wish him success and happiness
in
the new challenges ahead. We hope he will remain as a subscriber to this
and
the other three mid-Wales lists. We will do our best to look after the
very
healthy legacy he has passed on to us.
Now let's get back to the normal business of the List - enjoying the
quest
for our ancestors! :o)
Best wishes to everyone,
Julie and John
