Hi Lloyd,
Thanks for the details of the BBC show. My husband's great-grandparents
were Rees Jones (b.1850) and Anne Hughes who lived in Rhayader at the end of
their lives. (Their daughter Annie who later moved to Pembrokeshire is my
husband's maternal grandmother.) I believe Rees and Anne had lived in other
parts of Radnorshire before then, at Marchmont. I have corresponded with
some Hughes relatives of Anne's in Rhayader.
Research done by by husband's cousin overseas has revealed that Rees
parents were Thomas Lloyd Jones and Magdalin Price. Thomas Lloyd Jones is
son of David Jones who was son of Peter Jones and Peter's wife who had the
same surname as you, LEWIS! They lived at Irfon cottage at Abergwesyn. I
believe the Lewis wife (I have her first name somewhere in the depths of my
filing) had a brother ?? Lewis was supposedly the largest landowner in that
area. Peter Jones was the son of another David Jones who was apparently
quite wealthy and built a big house at Beulah. The farms Rees and his
father Thomas leased were Coedmynnach and Verddudu. (I think the latter
farm is in Brecon just across the river from Radnorshire.) I hope I've
supplied this information correctly. My husband's cousin stayed with us for
a few days last week and my head is reeling from Jones information!
Apparently there is a woman called Ruth Bidgood who wrote two articles
for the Brecon Historical Society Journal, round about 1986, called "A
family of Jones" and the article relates to my husband's ancestors (and I
presume Ruth's) in Radnorshire and Brecon. I'm hoping to get a contact
email for her somewhere so I can get a copy of the articles. There might
even have been a third article about them.

Hi Valerie,
Francis Brett Young's 'House under the Water' was filmed for the BBC
television and if I remember correctly in the early 1950's.
As far as I am aware no other version has been made.
What are your interests in this valley?

Lloyd

film, year made, main actors and/or whether it has been put on video?
