Hi,
This is the only one that seems to fit. It is for Dyffryn Elan,
Llansanffraid Cwmdeuddwr which comes under Rhayader. Ages for adults were
rounded down to 5 for the 1841 Census.
PRICE, Anne, 50, Y, Tanyvoel, f6/p5
PRICE, David, 40, quarryman, No, Tanyvoel, f6/p5
PRICE, David, 15, Y, Tanyvoel, f6/p5
PRICE, John, 9, Y, Tanyvoel, f6/p5
PRICE, Harriet, 20, female servant, Y, Tanyvoel, f6/p5
Yan y foel means below bare topped hill according to Stephen Collard's
Elan
Valley People in 1851. It is half way between Caban Coch and Carreg
Ddu
dams. It is a farm of 10 acres and is 3 1/2 miles from the centre of
Rhayader. National Grid Ref. SN 922 644 Is rises steeply from the River
Elan. According to this David was born in 1796 in Llanwrthwl, Breconshire
and Ann was born in 1791 in Nantmel, Radnorshire. Llanwrthwl although in
Breconshire is only a few miles from Rhayader.
Stephen Collard has extra information on this place as he says William
Turner the famous watercolour artist visited the Elan Valley and sketched
"Craggy Voyle near River Ellen".
I couldn't find another David who fitted, there were two others the same
age
in the area but not near enough to Rhayader.
I hopes it helps. My ancestors are also in this booklet.
Regards,
Margaret Harvey
