Hi
Thank you so much for your reply.
(Why do you think that D.L.Coates and the above are
the same person? This
will help in sorting out the relations.)
I was getting nowhere trying to reseach Wales,so I
engaged a professional researcher amd this is what he
came up with. At first I had my doubts(and I still
have some). In 1861 census you will find DL Coates
working at Croestic in Cenarth twp parish of St Harmon
as a horse breaker. He lists himself as married. Not
with his family.
Found Ann Lewis in Nantmel in 1861. Children David L
born Feb 25,1858 at Nantyroer,St Harmon,John born Nov
24,1858 at Hilltop,Nantmel and Mary Ann born July
4,1860 at Penbwlch,Nantmel. There was one more son
born Feb 8,1862 in Nantmel. They moved to Trefeglwys
in 1863/64. There they had five more children.
Their oldest son is my great grandfather. He was
married by name of Coates. I questioned his birth date
because it did not agree with what I had from US
census or his obit. He was born in 1857. Emmigrated in
1883 to US
If they could be found on the 1871 census maybe some
of the first 4 children would be with them.
When I started this research and was told that Coates
was a rare name in Wales,I thought it would be a piece
of cake.Boy,was I wrong!!!
I appreciate any and all help you can give me.
Thank you
Edna Coates Schlauch
Pennsylvania,USA
