Hi Terry,
I am researching my Mills ancestors who originated from Nantmel. My great, great
grandfather John Mills marrie Anne Hughes in the Parish Church of Llananno on 20th
November, 1842. In 1861 they were living at Plentfulgates, Llananno and one of their
daughters was a Sarah aged 4.
I also have a note of a Sarah Mills married to James Jones, a tailor. Sarah was the
daughter of John Mills and his wife Adeliza Thomas I was interested to see that their
first son was given the name James Lewis Jones. John and Adeliza were living at
Llanbadarnfawr in 1861. Their daughter Sarah then aged 9 was Baptised at Llanbister on
April 16th 1852 but I realise that is too early for you.
My earliest known Mills ancestor was my 4 x great grandfather David who married Mary Jones
in Nantmel on 27th August 1768. They had four known sons, David, Henry, Francis and
Matthew. I am descended from Francis.
A Mills website for Mid Wales has recently been set up and you might like to visit it at
http://freepages.misc.rootsweb.com/~millsofmidwales/
It is in its early days and we are hoping eventually to find a connection between the
Mills families of Llanidloes and Trefeglwys and my Nantmel ones.
Through the Powys list and the Powys FHS I have been delighted to find descendants of
Francis' brothers.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Regards,
Margaret Harvey
