Hello
I've just subscribed to the list and would like to share my research and if
possible ask a few questions. I'm very new to Radnorshire searches and
confess I had to take a look at a map to find out where it was. Nantmel
appears to be a very small place.
David James EVANS is my man of interest.
He married Cordelia Mary Pelham at "the Stepney Meeeting" in Stepney London
in 1853 - occupation "Dissenting Minister" father James Evans
"Gentleman".
According to census records he was born c1829/30 in Nantmel Rhayader, he
also had the additional occupation of "journalist / author".
David moved to Stroud after his marriage but children's ages indicate he
was settled back in the London area by 1859.
Searches of major Library catalogues on the net have failed to find an
author who fits David James Evans but perhaps he wrote for church
publications.
Any suggestions for locating some of his work would be really appreciated.
The IGI has a possible entry for David's christening at Gore Chapel Old
Radnor parents James / Elizabeth (1831). Other children christened to
this couple appear between 1828 and 1836
My map searches indicate this is a good few miles from Nantmel - is it
possible they would have travelled this far?? or did the minister travel
to Nantmel??
It was also interesting to note that christenings I looked at for this
Chapel were for infants of 1year old. Is this significant????
I located two possible marriages on the National Library of Wales site for
a James and Elizabeth...
James Evans schoolmaster married Nantmel 1813 to Elizabeth Wallker.
James Evans clerk married Rhayader in 1810 to Elizabeth Vaughan.
Sorry to fill my first post with so many queries!!
Linda
