Elvery, Lewis et al,
I am sorry about sending irrelevant information last night, it was getting
on for two o'clock in the morning and I should have been asleep and not
working on family history. The farm name Penpistill had caught my eye as it
appears in my Powell family history and there was a Davies marriage at one
time so I was looking back through my records.
I have now found this marriage and is a possible one for your Thomas Davies
although the information is very sparse.
St. Clement's Rhayader
19th May 1826
Thomas Davies, widower of Nantmel
Jane Owens, single of Rhayader
The information was passed on to me from another researcher and I am not
sure whether the date is for the marriage or Banns. The age for Thomas
seems reasonable considering he had been married previously and was a
widower and Jane would have been about thirty-one. Her place of residence
when she married was given as Rhayader but she could have moved there to
work so it doesn't help with the Llandrindod Wells angle and the date of the
marriage is too early to find her on the 1841 Census listed as Owens. It
may however give you something to work on.
By the way my 4 x great grandmother was a Mary Owens who married John Powell
on the 20th May 1785 at St. Harmon however he was born in Nantmel. I have
no further information on Mary except for her death.
Regards,
Margaret H

Thanks for this information - I don't think it's the couple
I'm looking
for
as their ages are a bit far out even for the discrepancies of the
time -
in
all records I've found Thomas was born around 1790 & Jane
around 1795. It
was a definite possibility as Thomas was born at Nantmel & in one census
Jane was also though mostly her birth place is given as Llandrindod
Wells -
unfortunately I haven't found a record of their marriage so
don't know her
surname to check - ah well, one day!
Thanks Elvery
