Hi All,
Just a quick mail to let you all know that the Minute books from
the Ogmore & Garw Urban District Council are currently being scanned onto CD
Rom. All 41 volumes of them!
Othernews:
We have now arranged with the following schools to transfer their Admission
Registers to CD Rom when they close at the end of the Summer term 2003:
Tynewydd (includes Aber & Caedu boys schools)
Ogmore Vale Nursery (one book from April 1947 to the present day)
Fronwen (no details yet but there appear to be 7 registers)
No details on cost yet but I am hopeful that we may get money from the
Ogmore Valley Trust or the new Heritage Grants body ("Balchder Bro").
On the research side, been hanaded an interesting article repotrting on a 11
May 1914 article in the Western Mail about the last known survivor (at that
time) of someone who was present at the Battle of Rorkes Drift (Jan 22/23
1879) and was working as alabourer in the Wyndham colliery. He was a Sam
PITT aged 58 in 1914 and is very worthy of an article in afuture
journal.......
Anyone still to pay membership please send to me at the address below as
I`ll be sending reminder cards out hopefully this week..........If I haven`t
got you down as paid, then that will explain why you won`t have recieved
your complimentary copy of our 2003 calender:-)
