Hi All,
Having recently upgraded our SDITGW CD Rom to V2 I was pleaantly surprised to
finfd the follwoing additional Gallantry Awards to men of the Ogmore Valley:
1.
Sergeant Ernest Wyndham Arthur LESTER, 486363
468th (North Midland) Field Coy. R.E. (SDITGW V2). b. OV. e. Norton Canes, Staffs. [KIA:
09 Jun 1917 F&F]
London Gazette: 14 Jan 1916. (No Citation).
2.
Corporal Fred TERRINGTON, 13695
Ist Bn. RWF (SDITGW V2). b. Llandyfodwg. e. OV. [KIA: 30 Mar 1918, Italy]
London Gazette: 28 Mar 1917, 3877
13695 Sjt. F. Terrington, R. Welsh Fus. (Ogmore Vale)
“For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in volunteering three times to go on
patrol. He drove in a small enemy covering party and accurately located two machine-guns,
though under heavy fire, in daylight. Later, he brought in many wounded, and though
himself wounded, refused to withdraw until ordered to do so”.
This is a very unusual award as there wsn`t much fighting in Italy during WWI.
