Hi All,
Been to Coed Parc today to try and find some information on an accident reported in
the
Llanelly Mercury occurring in 1900 where Dr William Richard Parry Jones rescued 9 miners
from an
Ogmore Valley Colliery.
Sadly no information was found on that but a couple of snippets may be of interest to
someone else....

Mr W. Williams, 72 of Oakfield Terrace died as a result of injuries received the previous
week at
Western Colliery, Nantymoel. The Coroner D. H. Stockwood held the inquiry at Dinam Vestry
with Her
Majesties Inspector Mr Adams present.
The jury heard that a large stone had fallen on him injuring his back.
A verdict of accidental death was passed.

On Wednesday morning two brothers, Henry CHAVE, 28 and Lewis CHAVE, 17 of Prospect Place
where
working in an old pillar of the "House Coal Colliery", Messrs Norths Navigation,
when a "pounce"
occurred followed by a concussion of air. Both men were killed instantly and their bodies
were
frightfully mutilated. They provided the only support to their widowed mother. The rails
of the
colliery and a dram were smashed.

The "Flower of Ogmore" lodge of the Independant Order of the Forestors held
their annual Dinner at
the Ogmore Junction Hotel, Blackmill.

The Court Colman Ivorites hekd their dinner at the Court Colman Hotel where a large number
gathered
under the excellent hosts Mr & Mrs WATKINS, who were well used to catering for such
gatherings.
On a seperate note the indexing of the the Glamorgan Gazettes given to the Society by
Wendy VAUGHAN
has now begun with 1939 nearly complete with over 500 names extracted so far.....
