Welcome one and all to the WLS-OGMORE-VALLEY-L Mailing List.
For those unfamiliar to Mailing Lists, they are an ideal way for a like
minded bunch, and we now number 15 in all, to easily keep in touch.
YOu will no doubt have had the "Welcome" message from the Rootsweb Robot,
and whilst it is a generic set of intstructions they are some useful bits of
info in there if you take a quick look at it................
To post to the list simply send an e-mail to:
WLS-OGMORE-VALLEY-L(a)rootsweb.com and then everyone else on the list can
receive your post.
I don`t envisage this being a very heavy traffic list, but it is a quick and
effective way to communicate to you all.............
Please feel to use this list for any/all queries about the Valley or any
local/family history question you have, if *we* on the list haven`t got the
answer i`m sure you can be directed to a man/woman who does:-)
Entirely up to you whether you wnt to introduce yourself and your interest
in the Valley, absolutely no issue if you just want to sit back and take all
the info in..............
For those that don`t know me a brief rundown.............
I am Huw Daniel, born 01 Apr 1961 (as you can imagine I`ve not had much
mickey taken over the years for that!) in the house I now own, No. 6 River
Street Ogmore Vale. Incidenatlly family folkore insists it was the first
house built in the street, and whilst there is no concrete proof of that, it
is the only house in river street with the stairs built running back to
front not front to back.
The house was built by Williams Aberdare and the Daniel family took up
residence dometime in the 40`s/50`s nd we`ve been here ever since.
I took the Queens shilling in 1978 (not quite the same ring today to taking
the Queens Euro!) and spent 10 years travelling the world with the Royal
Signals and learning how to paint inanimate objects........I now work for
Sony in Pencoed as the Warehouse Distribution Manager.
I was finally nailed to the alter in 1990 and currently have three woman
bossing my life, though quite who is actually in charge I leave the three of
them to argue out while I just get on with my many hobbies...............Two
closely linked ones are Family and Local history, with Local History
currently taking more time as there are less brick walls to clamber over.
I also have many collecting hobbies, suspect I was a magpie in a former life
and I have a keen interest in all things military, despaite my run in with
them earlier:-)
Thanks to my hobbies (and a very understanding other half) I have built up a
fair collection of books and michrofiche on Military and Family History
covering mainly the Counties of Glamorgan, Norfolk and Suffolk but bits and
pieces from elswhere, depending on where my nomadic family wandred
to/through.
If I can be of ANY assistance with a lookup in any of this data please do
not hesitate to ask...........
Right, I`ve prattled on enough..........onwards with the
List...................
Regards
Huw
