Hi All,
Just to let you know that this yers "Book Launch" will once
again take place in the magnifcent surroundings of Ogmore Vale Primary
School, thanks to the Head, Paul Booth.
We will again be supplying wine, orange juice and a finger buffet, with
the Journals being on sale at 2000 prices (of £5) still :-)
Detials of the articles in this years 68 page Journal are on the web
site, as are the caost for posting to the UK and worldwide.
For those able to attend in person, you will have the chance to view the
Ogmore Valley Miners Memorial in all it`s glory and in addition this
year, the "Ogmore Valley Timeline Plaques" can also be viewed in the
Junior Wing (quite literally a "Wing", for those that know the schools
design).
There will be a guest speaker to luanch this years Journal, more news of
which later.......
As a complete bonus this year, we have finally had the OK from the Data
Registrar`s Office to realease our scanned data, which we are launching
as the "Ogmore Valley Data Archive", which on the launch night will
consist of the following DVD`s:
Llangeinor Parish Records (1755-1982)
Primary School Admission Registers (1870-1960)
We will also be launching the first in a planned series of digital
images of the Valley; the first CD will contain the Society`s archive on
the Valleys Collieries.
They are several more "subjects" for future CD`s in the pipeline and we
can offer a "personalisation" service for CD`s/DVd`s that can be used as
gifts :-)
As we have our own DVD/CD burning technology (HP Lightscribe) which
takes a mere 10 mins to burn the 4.5GB of data, there shouldn`t be too
many delays when orders are placed to actaully despatching the finished
product(s)......More dependant on my social life and the rugby season
interfering :-)
We are also now able to re-release the "Minutes of the Ogmore & Garw
Urban District Council 1912-1974" and the comlete records of the "Ogmore
Valley Power Supply & Electric Light Comapny 1894-1944".
We are also working on releasing the scanned copies we have of the
"Ocean Coal Magazine 1934-6".
All of which require a minimal outlay to the Society as we do not now
have to purchase these products from another supplier we can produce
them ".in-house".
If anyone ha any ideas as to what they would like to see for sale on
CD/DVD let us know on this list.
More news when we get it as always the members of the Society are
working hard in the background and we are hoping for good news on a
couple of projects soon.......
