I am not sure if this helps, because my information is more than six months old and things
could have changed. However, (in a nutshell), I was on the 'steering group' that
was considering the future of the Berwyn Centre but resigned earlier this year. The Group
after a long series of 'consultations' with interested parties and current users
of the Centre, decided that the scheme used in the Garw Valley for the setting up of the
Calon Lan Centre could be used for the Berwyn. A Limited Company (under guarantee) would
take over the running of the Berwyn Centre from Bridgend Council. This Company would act
more like a management commitee and attract funding for the rebuilding of a new centre at
the old Berwyn Centre site. As I understand, it the Council were in agreement with the
proposals and assisted in the drawing up of plans and costings. The plans I saw, called
for the demolition of the main building (beyond economic repair). The lower level (where
we
hold our meetings now) could be retained, with a new single story structure built above
it.

Les

Hi Huw,
Will any effort be made to preserve the wall painting of James Llewellyn

Hi All,
It looks like it`s official, BCBC cabinet will tomorrow rubber stamp the
demolition of the Berwyn Centre, Nantymoel.
It remains to be seen what, if anything they will build in its place!
They have seemingly promised £200,000 to match fund a replacement -
It`ll probably cost that to demolish!!!
may have to move our meetings to a friendly (free) public house:-)
