Hi All,
Some very interesting "happenings", this week mostly in response to
our article in the Oldham Evening Chronicle............
Another phone call yesteday evening, from a lady on holiday for one week
from Suffolk, but she just happened to read the OEC and spotted our article.
It turns out that she used to work in a transport firm owned by Frank
BOUSFIELD`s father.
The Lake District was again confirmed as the area the BOUSFIELD`s came from
but most interesting was the fact that Frank and Nora had a daughter, named
Pamela and would have been born shortly after Franks death in 1940! We
already knew that Nora married again and we now know that she had a son by
her second husband, so plaenty of new leads to follow up.
We finally had our article published in the Petersfield Post this week and
it looks like the paper had done some reasearch of their own before
publishing it as they found out that Commander Alfred MAGUIRE moved to
Hayling Island and they traced a villager who took over the village hall
from him many years ago..........Ken James has also been hot on this trail
and has had a phone call from Petersfield about the commander with much the
same info so far...........
We had out first response to the Petersfield article tonight, an e-mail of
Lynne Howells informing she has tried many sources to try and track our
Commander MAGUIRE down but no luck yet though she is still trying.
One excellent piece of news off Lynne is that there is a monthly newspaper
called "The Hayling Islander" which we`ll try and get an article
in...........No website for it though I did find
http://www.haylingisland.net so I posted a message on their forum board
there........
We are going to be discussing at next Wednesday`s meeting (Feb 7th) whether
or not to purchase Golden Jubilee mugs for sale to the general public.
The firm invloved offer a number of choices but the one we are interested in
is whereby we supply local picture, have our own inscription around the rim
of the Bone China cup (typically someting mentioning the Ogmore Valley) with
a bit of bumf on the cup about the Queens Golden Jubilee.
They`ll cost us around the £2.95 each mark for 100, but as no other
organisation is doing anything for the Golden Jubilee, then I believe we`ll
easily sell them all at around £4.99 each, though it`s going to be totally
up to the members at the next meeting, and of course
yourselves..............Any views/ideas post them to this list and I`ll take
them along to the next meeting.
I am serious when I say we can sell them all, I`ve only mentioned it to 3
members so far and could have *orders* for 15 o the demand is
there................
