Hi Both,
As we have now agreed this year's Book Launch date I would, on behalf
of
the Officers and Members like to extend an open invitation to you all to attend our 12th
Annual Book Launch.
This year we are indebted to Mrs Julie Morgan, acting Head teacher of Ogmore Vale Primary
School who has graciously allowed us to use the excellent facilities of Ogmore Vale
Primary School on Friday 25th November, commencing at 7pm.
The articles that we are expecting to publish this year are: (in no particular order)
The Parliamentary History of Ogmore
Lessons from Auschwitch
The Conibears (Early history of the Ogmore Valley Hotel)
Michael Peters (1st Charity Rugby Game)
CEAD MILE FAILTE (A Hundred Thousand Welcomes)
Huw Jones
William James Cranston, DSO, OBE
A Lad from Ogmore Vale (Poem)
Dr Richard Thomas BEVAN (1914-1997)
Famous Old Pupils of Ogmore`s Secondary Schools
Winnie Davies (Nursing in Ogmore Vale)
Coal Mining in the Ogmore Valley (Norths Navigation Ltd)
Trevor John - An appreciation of his life
A particularly significant year for local history in the Ogmore Valley as the Ogmore
Valley Local History Society have now instigated and fund two more History Awards in
associated Valley primary Schools to compliment the Ted Cox Annual Award which has been
running in Ogmore Comprehensive School since 2006.
The two new awards this year are as follows:
The Ursula Ridley Memorial Award, to the most promising history pupil in Ogmore Vale
Primary School and the Trevor John Memorial Award, awarded to the most promising history
pupil in Nantymoel Primary School.
With the amalgamation of Ogmore into the new Coleg Cymunedol Y Dderwen from September
2011, the Ted Cox Memorial Award will continue to be awarded to the most promising
history
pupil at Y Dderewn.
If you need any more information, please do not hesitate to contact me,
Regards
