Hi Huw
I have vivd memories of the dental clinic operated in Caedu school!!!!!
All drilling was carried out with a foot operated pedal drill and no
anaesthetic was administered prior to the most excruciating drilling
sessions.
Another clear memory of my time there ( '33-'38) was the whole school being
lined up and caned for failing to obey Luther's clear instuction not to
trample all over the newly planted shrubbery in the playtime!!!
Ebenezer Williams a senior master then lived at No.1 Elm Terrace .
The cane was used quite liberally with all sorts of folklore being prevalent
as to how to minimise the after effect; a hair on the palm of the hand was
one (useless) device!!

Been on the trail of the Heads of Tynewydd Boys Junior School, known to
one and all as Caedu Boys School, which was built in 1914-15 and having
just re-discovered the "Tynewydd Boys School Compendium" first compiled
on 27th October 1932 by the Head, Luther Stephens.
It is full of fascinating facts, not just about the school but items of
interest from around the valley....
The only bits it is missing are the names of the heads before Luther
Stephens, as we know that Edwards Edwards took over as the ast head in
1915 after 21 years as head of Tynewydd mixed School. I can`t remember
the dates but he died shortly after (I think c1918) and there is a gap
to the first written head in the Compendium, Luther Stephens.
