I'm searching for descendants of my great-grandfather, John Jones. John
started off as colliery overman and worked his way up to be manager of
the two Wyndham collieries in the Ogmore Valley. John was born on the
10th of May 1850 in Llangynog (Llangunnock), Carms of Henry Jones
(shoemaker) and Mary John (nee Edwards). He was married twice.
His children by his first wife Elizabeth (b. 1849/50, Llanstephan,
Carms) were:
Mary A Jones (b. 1871/2, Ogmore Valley)
Margaret "Maggie" Jones (b. 1872/3, Ogmore Valley)
Elizabeth Jones (b.1876/7, Ogmore Valley)
Deborah Jones (b. 1878/9, Ogmore Valley)
His children by his second wife Mary (nee Howells, b. 1859, Brycethin) were:
Reginald Jones (b. 18 Mar 1888, Llangeinor - my grandfather)
Morfyd Jones (b. 1891/2, Llangeinor)
Mary Jones (b. 1893/4, Llangeinor)
Daisy Jones (b. 1895/6, Llangeinor)
Austin Jones (b. 1896/7, Llangeinor)
John almost brought other relatives from Llangynog (Llangunnock) to
Bridgend to work in the colliery including:
His nephew, James Phillips (b. 1863/4, Llangynog)
His nephew, Thomas Jones (b. 1869/70, Llangynog)
His brother, the father of a William Edwin Jones (b. About 1880)
His probable bother, Samuel Jones (b. 1852/3, llangynog)
His probable relative, Benjamin Jones (b. 1876/7, Llangynog)
His wife Elizabeth's probable brother, John Williams (b. 1847/8,
Llanstephan, Carms)
Because this is all quite recent, in genealogical terms, there are may
still some of John's grandchildren who are still alive. I would dearly
love to make contact with my relatives on this side of the family.
Other information about John Jones would be very gratefully received.
Take care,
Paul
