Hi All,
For thoose unable to attend last nights meeting we were once
again generously loaned 5 superb postcard images for our digital archive.
There were loaned by Mrs Peggy Hughes and consist of the following...
1.
1904 image of the "rear of Osborne Terrace", which shows a group of 16
children and some adults in the distant back.
2.
1910 image of the first pupils and staff of Ogmore Higher Elementary School.
Clearly visible is Thomas Jacob Jones and two other male teachers and
three other female teachers.
We can probably guess which one is J. Davies-Brown, the first head and
the others are probably the firts staff named in the schools log book
opened in 1910:
Senior Assistant Mistress: Miss Lillian Armitage
Junior Assistant Mistress: Miss Lillian M. Davies
Form Master: Thomas Samuel
Two girls are identified by an "X" as being "Gwyn" and
"Gertie" in the
text of the message which though the postcard had a stamp (long since
removed) it doesn`t appear to have been postally used...
The text on the back which was addressed to Miss Morfydd Davies, Howells
School, Llandaff reads:
"Dear Morfydd,
Do you recognise Gwyn & Gertie?
I think they have come out excellently. I was rather surprised at you
not answering my letter which I wrote you at the beginning of the term.
I wish you would write
