John,
If you use the National Library of Wales website:
http://www.llgc.org.uk/
Click on "Catalogues and Online Resources", then on "ISYS:web (Minor
Databases)", then "Search ISYS:web". From the drop-down menu, choose
"Manuscripts: Schedules" and use Plas Machynlleth for your search criteria,
there are quite a number of hits including the Plas Machynlleth Estate
Papers (summaries) which are on deposit there. You should get a good idea
of the types of information contained therein.
Good luck!

Hello Everyone,
I have recently joined the list. My wife has a large number of ancestors
who lived
in the Machynlleth area. Two of these William Parry, Fellmonger
and Abraham Edwards appear to have been employed at Plas Machynlleth before
moving to London to start up dairy businesses. I kow very little about the
Plas, other than that it was inherited by the Marquis of Londonderry in 1872
and had a very small resident staff in the 1881 census. I would be grateful
for any information about the survival of estate documents from the 1870's
and early 1880's, particularly rent and employee records.
Abraham Edwards came from north Ceredigion, but William Parry came
from a
family of butchers in business in Machynlleth through most of the 19th cent.
I am interested in any information about them .The info I have is;
William Parry, Butcher, Penhendre St, born about 1786
Anne Parry his wife born 1791
John son born 1813
Anne daughter born 1818
William son born 1816
William son born 1822
Richard son born 1824
Owen son born 1830
Elizabeth daughter born 1832
Owen Parry also became a Butcher in Machynlleth. Married Mary Price of
Carno. Son
William Parry was born in 1858. It was he who became a Fellmonger
and worked at the Plas before going to London about 1882. He married Gwen
Jones of Tanybryn Farm. The family returned to mid-Wales and his daughter
Mary Winnifred was living with his wifes family at Tanybryn, Machynlleth in
1901. She subsequently moved to South Wales, but she had contact with
relatves in Machynlleth until at least the1950's.
Any further info on he above would be very welcome.
Regards,
John
