Gill,
Presumably the entry (below) from the 1881 Census Index is "your" John &
Jane LLOYD? As you said, LLOYD is not an uncommon surname in
Montgomeryshire (mine are from Trefeglwys). As you can see in the entry,
your John LLOYD originates in Llanrhaedr(-ym-Mochnant) which, in "Parish
Registers of Wales", is listed under Denbighshire. Suggest you also post to
the Powys-L and the new WLS-Denbighshire-L mailing lists -- the Powys list
has been active for much longer and you'll probably reach more interested
parties.

This would appear to be the same couple in the 1851 Census Index (CD pub. by
the Powys FHS), living in the parish of Llansanffraid (house & garden
appears to be within the hamlet of Brynypistill):

I know this is a common name however my Great Grand Mother Ann Lloyd
came
from Llansainffriad, Montgomeryshire. She was born in about 1857 and her
father was John Lloyd, a farmer. Her mother's name was Jane.
Does anyone have any Lloyds living in Llansainffriad, Montgomeryshire.
Thanks
Gill
