Dear All
Apologies for cross-posting to both relevant lists.
My research interests in Powys/Montgomeryshire are mainly WINDSORs (but
also SWAINs, who I will write of another time). My branch of the family
moved to Llandrinio, then Llantysilio, from Baschurch, Shropshire, in
the 1880s. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone else who's
researching WINDSORs in this area - there aren't many of them.
My brickwall is my gt-gt-gt grandfather Griffith WINDSOR, born about
1787, supposedly in Baschurch. My problem is that I can't find a record
of his birth in any of the parish registers for Baschurch or surrounding
areas - I have checked the microfiche in Shropshire Archives and I've
done an online search of IGI. It's a long shot, but I wonder whether he
was, for some reason, born just over the border in a Powys parish -
perhaps, as they later moved to Powys, they had longstanding family or
work connections there...? He was a bricklayer (as were most of the
WINDSOR men) and I know that his likely father (also Griffith WINDSOR,
b. 1760) did work for the Earl of Powis around Llandrinio in the early
1800s.
I'd really appreciate any advice or information. It is frustrating not
to be able to make a positive connection between the two Griffiths
(there is also another one, b. 1728!).
Thanks in advance.
Best wishes
Jill
