Yvonne,
Since you know the death occurred in such a short time-frame, why not
contact the Supt. Registrar's Office at Machynlleth and order his death
certificate? The place of death might give you a better idea of where to
look for his burial.
Something else to think of is that the parish of Machynlleth bordered
Cardiganshire -- my great-great-grandmother's death was registered in both
counties, according to her death certificate. If they lived well to the
west of the parish it's not impossible he may have been buried in a
neighboring parish in Cardiganshire -- keep in mind in case you strike out
with Machynlleth.
Have you found the widow in the 1871 census and, if so, was she living in
the same place the family lived in the 1861 census? She may have remarried
after the death of her husband -- something else to check with the Supt.
Reg., perhaps.
Good luck.
Regards,
Julie Preston

Julie
Sorry between 1861 - 1864
His son was born 1859 and was about 4 years of age when his father died. I
havent been able to find the mother on the 1881 census.
