Yvonne,
The Supt. Reg. office doesn't need the GRO Index number and the place-name
in Machynlleth (in 1859 when the son was born and from the 1861 census)
should serve as sufficient detail to request a death certificate (along with
his age and occupation, assuming you have those details from the other
sources).

I have not done the 71 census as yet. Will do so tho.
On checking the GRO's there were many Edward Hughes even in that short
time
frame. I don't know his parents names and on checking the
GRO's for his
marriage to Jane Evans I also found that there seemed to be many Edward
Hughes matching with Jane Evans. However I will go through them again.
