Alwyn,
I notice your interest in Pennal. I am researching the EDWARDS family
of Pennal although up to now I have done very little work on it.
Catherine EDWARDS, daughter of David and Elizabeth EDWARDS married
Ellis EVANS, ship's carpenter of Aberdyfi. Catherine was born in 1829
or thereabouts. I believe she had a brother David 8 years older than
herself.
I should be interested to learn of any on-line resources, cds or
publications which might be relevant.
Hello Pam,
So many of your family seem to have come from the same places as my family
that I am surprised that we have not found a common relation yet — perhaps
they didn't like each other <g>.
I don't know of any on-line CD or printed publications for Pennal other than
the Merioneth Marriage Index, which covers the whole county and Powys FHS'
1851 Census for Montgomeryshire which includes Pennal.
I have started to put some of the Merionethshire Bishop's Transcripts on my
web-site <
http://dolgellau.me.uk>. It is a slow process, I have ordered the
BTs for Pennal from the National Library so that I can add them to my to-do
list. The NLW usually take four or five weeks to deliver but as soon as they
arrive I shall let you know.
The only David & Elizabeth Edwards that I could find on the Powys 1851 CD was
this couple, neither of whom are native of Pennal, this Elizabeth would have
been 43 in 1829, which although not impossible, is a bit on the older side
for motherhood.
HO107/2495 /folio178/p7,
David EDWARDS / head / married / Male aged: 62 / Work: Ag. lab. / born: MER
Towyn / census: Village of Pennal,
Elizabeth EDWARDS / wife, /married / Female aged: 65 / Work: Ag. lab.'s wife
/ born: MGY Machynlleth / census: Village of Pennal
There is no David Edwards & Elizabeth marriage recorded in the MMI 1754-1836
All the best
Alwyn
