Dear Julie,
I don't think Richard (Dick) Mills subscribes to either of the lists at the moment. I
have forwarded your e-mail to him and to the other researchers involved in the new Mills
family of Mid Wales website. Dick's Mills' ancestors were from Trefeglwys. In
Llanidloes there were the "musical and printing" Mills and the
"foundry" ones. My particular Mills originated in Nantmel but moved to the
Llananno area and then Llangurig, my maternal grandmother was a Martha Mills and she ended
her days in Llanidloes living with my mother and myself during the Second World War.
There is a photograph of John Mills (1843-1924) in Ronald Morris' book of Llanidloes
Past and Present. This John Mills was the one who became Mayor of the Town and he was
born ay Rhyd y Carw, Trefeglwys. He was the nephew of Mrs. William Thomas, her husband
was the founder of the Foundry. John Mills succeeded him as the proprietor It says in
the book that William Thomas built Foundry Terrace Mid Wales Villa, his own residence. He
was also living in Foundry Terrace in 1881. It does seem likely that the John Mills
living in Foundry Terrace was the one who was Mayor of the town.
William Thomas founded the first small foundry at Cwmcwtta, Trefeglwys with the help of
two brothers James and Stephen Morris.
I will let you know if I have any information on Dorothy Mills sent to me.
Regards,
Margaret Harvey
