Good Morning Margaret,
Thank you for the information about St Erfyl Church, which was a surprise to
me. Erfyl is a common name in my family and I didn't realize it was the name
of the Parish Church. I received a site you may be interested in:
http://www.cpat.demon.co.uk/projects/longer/churches/idxall.htm
Here I found the following: "The early church, dedicated to St Erfyl, a
daughter of St Padarn, was reputedly built in the late 6th or early 7th
Century. (Erfyl is a feminine name?)
Now I am in a real quandary as we have three times the number of males as
females with Erfyl as part of their name.
Interesting!
Stan Harris

Hi,
Mike Salter's gem of a book The Old Parish Churches of Mid-Wales has the
following:
<Llanerfyl, St. Erfyl
The church was rebuilt in 1870 leaving only six arched braced roof trusses
of c1400, the late 15th century font, and the late medieval shrine niches
and reliquary shaped like a chapel which are fixed on the vestry wall.
There is also and Early Christian gravestone and of the former gallery
there
are illustrated panels dated 1727.>
Regards,
Margaret Harvey
