Walt,
In the 1851 Census of Montgomeryshire (CD pub. by Powys FHS), I found this
entry in the parish of Llangyniew:
EDWARDS, DAVID H U 52 FARMER OF 40 ACRES LLANGYNIEW MGY BRONCYNINFA 22/12
GITTINES, MARY SV U 56 HOUSE SERVANT LLANFAIR MGY BRONCYNINFA 22/12
EVANS, JOHN SV U 18 LLANFIHANGEL MGY BRONCYNINFA 22/12
LLOYD, JANE NK 4 LLANFIHANGEL MGY BRONCYNINFA 22/12
Neighboring abodes (allow for wild spelling!) were: Fywnog; Rhose Isa;
Maesynyuaddisa; Cynhinfa (those preceded Broncyninfa in the list);
Greenhill; Penybongyn; Huntsman Hall; Isgoed; Gwaungefn; Fron; Cyunant;
Bron; Pontrobert Mill (followed Broncyninfa in list). I did not have any
luck locating it in the 1881 Census.
As to your question regarding changing chapels -- there were many instances
where the minister traveled around so they might have gone to the nearest
independant chapel where a minister would be that day to perform the
christening, or because they wanted to hear a specific preacher preach.

Julie Preston

Subject: Location of "Abode"
In preparation for my trip to Montgomeryshire in late August, I'm
trying
to find the "abode" of my family in the 1820-1840 time frame.
It is listed as follows:
Date "Abode" Source
Oct 20, 1824 Broncynhynfa Chapel Register of Births
Independents, Llanfyllin
June 19, 1826 Broncynhynfa "
Aug 14, 1828 Broncynhanfor Chapel Register, Main Chapel, Meifod.
Indep.
April 15, 1831 Broncynunfa Bishop's transcripts of Llangyniew
(Burial)
I have not been able to find anyplace that resembles these spellings in
the area on my Ordnance Maps.
As an aside has anyone any idea why a non-conformist family would have
changed the chapel that they went to for baptisms, burials etc?
Thanks for any light you can share on these problems
